Perseverance #4 — Way Out Endurance

If you think you stand, take heed lest you fall. No test is new or unique; and God is faithful, in that he will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but with the test will even provide the way out, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13

As the best basketball players move toward the basket, they watch for someone who may be open for a better shot. So in our movement toward Heaven, we must be alert for the way out of situations which present the possibility of losing the benefits of fellowship with God, of trying to obtain our joy from something or someone other than God. If we will watch for it, we will find it. For Jesus has promised it will be available. God is faithful to his promise to complete the work he began in us. He knows us, precisely how strong our faith is; so every trial will include the possibility of success. The key to success in trials of faith is flight. We must fly away from idolatry, from placing our confidence in any creation that promises us joy, and toward confidence in the Creator. There is a light at the end of the tunnel; it is the Light of Life.

Faithful Lord, I have trusted you with my whole life. Be the lamp to my feet and the light to my path, so I will keep going after you regardless of obstacles and rough ground. Amen.
